Prophylactic compression stockings
In the second half of pregnancy, many pregnant women begin to be plagued by swelling. Most often, the swelling tends to go to the legs, mainly the toes, feet, ankles. In the second most frequent place are swelling of the hands. Most of the swellings during pregnancy are physiological or normal. Swelling during pregnancy is caused both by hormonal changes, as a result of which the body cells bind more fluid, as well as the pressure of the growing baby on the veins of the pelvis, which slows down blood circulation in the legs. Swelling occurs more in the evenings, after long sittings or standings, and in warmer weather.
To relieve swelling:
- limit the amount of salt in food
- consume enough fluids
- Move every day
- stockings, socks, trousers and shoes should not be squeezed or grooved anywhere
- Raise your feet higher
- cool foot baths or intermittent water (warm/cool) shower massage
- compression products
If the swelling worsens and the home remedies do not bring relief, the swelling goes to the face, there is headache, there are spots in front of the eyes, a ringing in the ears, upper abdominal pain, then be sure to contact the midwife/gynaecologist for additional examinations and to exclude preeclampsia.
Prophylactic compression stockings help prevent and relieve swelling during pregnancy. Reduce leg fatigue and heaviness. They also help prevent varicose veins, especially recommended for daily use by people who are prone to varicose veins.
